From Dated to Distinguished: A North Beach Bathroom Renovation
Tucked away on Sorrento Street in North Beach, this bathroom had seen better days. Dated tiles, tired fixtures, and a layout that no longer matched how the homeowners wanted to live it was a bathroom well past its prime, in need of a genuine step into the 21st century.
What it became is a calm, resort-style retreat that feels more like a coastal day spa than a family bathroom proof that even the most outdated spaces can be completely reimagined with the right design and materials.
Starting Point: A Bathroom Stuck in the Past
Like many homes in North Beach, this bathroom hadn't been touched in years. Dated tiling, worn fixtures, and a layout that didn't make the most of the space meant it was functional at best never a room anyone wanted to spend time in. For a coastal home so close to the beach, it deserved a design that actually
reflected that lifestyle.
The Transformation
The renovation centred around bringing warmth, texture, and a sense of calm into the space starting with a striking full-height feature wall behind the vanity and shower, finished in Vicenza Terrazzo Snow White Hilite textured tiles from WD Tiles. This was paired with Elite Mist Matt 600x600 floor and wall tiles and Ardex Magellan Gray grout, creating a cohesive, textured backdrop throughout the room.
At the centre of the design sits a custom 1200mm curved wall-hung vanity from ADP Australia, finished in Florentine Walnut with a Cherry Pie Solid Surface benchtop in Alabaster. An ABI Interiors Lola matte white basin and brushed nickel tapware complete the vanity, while a 1200x900mm Orlando LED edge-lit mirror with a built-in demister adds soft, ambient light against the textured feature wall.
The shower zone was designed to feel as open and seamless as possible a custom single-panel curved fluted glass screen sits over a hob-less shower floor, with a 300x600 recessed niche, an ABI Interiors Finley shower rail set, and a brushed nickel linear channel drain finishing the space without breaking up the clean lines of the room.
Finally, the little luxuries that make a bathroom feel genuinely elevated: dual vertical heated towel rails in brushed nickel with a digital timer, and an elongated back-to-wall toilet featuring a Toto S7 Washlet remote bidet seat.
The Result
What was once a dated, past-its-prime bathroom is now a genuinely elevated coastal retreat warm, textured, and built for the way this North Beach home actually lives. It's a reminder that a renovation isn't just about updating fixtures; it's about completely rethinking how a space feels and functions.
